sweet sweats

These sweatpants have folded neatly in my closet forever, they're comfortable but definitely won't hold up during 30 degree weather. For now, it'll do. The sleeves are the only interesting detail in this outfit - this is cool too (and when I say cool, I mean exactly they're exactly the same sweater). I completed the roll-out-of-bed outfit with my favorite oversized coat (that I desperately need a sweater shaver for), a droopy beanie that needed a double fold to fit my head and a new acquisition to my bag collection - the Inlite Selene, a bag that illuminates (literally!) and eliminates those nights of blindly rummaging through your bag for those keys or fifth chapstick that just turned out to be in your pocket the whole time.

plaid, plaid world

If I lived in the city, I'd be poor. There's no doubt about that. I took a walk with a friend after dinner to "digest" - walked around Soho and of course, came across this beauty of a jacket at Urban Outfitters. With its leather sleeves and tailored fit, I had to have it. It was an impulse by at nearly 10:00pm at night and it's safe to say that I slept like a baby that night.

And congratulations to Laura N. for winning the Nicole Miller #NMHolidays giveaway - thank you everyone to participating, stay tuned for more exciting giveaways!

I finally caved in with the peplum trend, I opted for the Santa Maria top from Sugarlips with these gorgeous cutouts. It's in an easy, comfortable cotton material that I don't see too often in peplum tops - part of the reason why I'm so into it.

the holidays : nicole miller giveaway

Photos by Landon
gifted Nicole Miller dress  |  Urban Outfitters jacket  |  Zara heels

There's something about the holidays that just makes everyone go insane with accessories. I didn't feel the need to throw any jewels on top of this dress and kept it simple with my favorite pair (and most comforable) of Zara heels and a sleek leather sleeved jacket that I bought recently on a whim. The chiffon bottom and side slit makes an otherwise relatively simple dress a little bit fancier and more party-appropriate. Nicole Miller always makes it easy for everyone to style it their own way, so they're giving you a chance to win this very dress to do just that!

For a chance to win a gorgeous Nicole Miller maxi dress of your own, here's what you've gotta do!

1. Follow @NicoleMillerNYC on Twitter.
2. Follow me on Bloglovin'.
3. Tweet me at @kristengracelam with #NMHolidays and comment below with your email address and tell me what you're going to be wearing during the holidays.

I'll announce the winner on Twitter and Facebook a week from now on Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 - so fingers crossed and good luck everyone!

most valuable layers

Gap sweater  |  UNIQLO chiffon dress  |  Club Monaco vest  |  Forever21 quilted skirt  |  thrifted shoes (similar)  |  UO satchel  |  H&M jacket  |  gifted Oasap tooth necklace  |  gifted Hello Berry necklace

Four layers and counting, New York City weather will do that to you. It'll make you work up a sweat commuting to work in your seemingly necessary layers while making you completely rethink your outfit choice once you're in a heated office building. I even layered on the necklaces, one of my old favorites and one of the new courtesy of Hello Berry - they make dainty jewelry for pretty much everyday wear. Quiksilver Women has yet another exciting project for the upcoming holidays, take their Holiday Style Guide to see what holiday look you match up with! They then curate special collections specific for your chosen look. I'm a Beach Bonfire chick, but I'm also loving the Downtown Girl collection, particularly the Central Jacket that I included in my holiday gift guide in my previous post. I went for a more sophisticated look with the Port Striped Raglan shirt with a tailored blazer and a pop of texture with my favorite Wet Seal skirt.

the holidays : small gift ideas

Just in case you're feeling generous (but not too generous) during the holidays, here are a few gifts that say, "Hey, I care about you in a big way".

4. Death by Chocolate planner (use the code KGLAM31 for a discount!)

Well, I could never say no to a gorgeous Quiksilver oversized coat and Phillip Lim bag either - that's a huge hint right there to my parents, my sister and all you cool kids that just wanna make me smile this Christmas. Hello, random mustache photo.

Woke up an hour ago, threw on yesterday's clothes, skipped the makeup (mainly because I didn't have any) and came out lookin' like this. Good thing I only saw a few people today, some of which I had incredible sample sale ordeals with (ahem Jasmine), which reminds me - sample sales harbor a certain type of evil person that one should never have to encounter.

second thoughts

thrifted oversized overcoat  |  thrifted lace shirt (similar)  |  JCrew sweater (similar)  |  Nicole Miller velvet cigarette pants  |  Zara heels

I've had this oversized overcoat (ha!) for a few years now and I've never pulled it out of the closet, truthfully was thinking about even selling it. There's something about this overcoat though, that just works and is just so practical for the current 30 degree weather happening in New York right now. I've also never given velvet cigarette pants a second thought, but paired with the right pieces - velvet can be a beautiful thing during the winter.

lazy habits

Photos by Landon of FashionGoggled

These days I've picked up extremely lazy habits of dressing like a boy, it all depends on my mood. And when it comes to an early post-Sandy Monday when I'm feeling under the weather - a boy's polka dot sweater, my never-fail sneaker heels and my absolute favorite leather sleeved varsity jacket will have to do.

margiela x h&m : the lookbook

The lookbook behind the Maison Martin Margiela and H&M collection coming T minus 10 days. Would you have known it was H&M if no one told you? The lookbook is so chic, sleek, oversized, unique silhouettes that's classic MMM.

winter whites

UO sheer top (similar)  |  oversized Zara jumper  |  Wet Seal lace skirt  |  Forever21 puffer vest  |  Steve Madden sneakers

This Forever21 puffer vest was a recent acquisition, on sale and a size too large, but I'm workin' it and it's the perfect oversized vest to wear with everything. Oh and why is my hair not its usual flat, limpy self, you ask? After literally one use of the Bangstyle volumizing shampoo, my hair instantly had body and shape, a huge difference right?
