the layering game

Photos by Emily Malan

I've been so M.I.A. for the past few weeks but hey, I've been busy editing videos for y'all and working a full time 9-to-5 to boot. So here's a quick shot that Emily snapped during a quick Soho errand run.

And here's my latest vlog of a weekend in Vermont. And because we're still in the winter season and just in case you've missed, here's my winter outfit video!

that time of the year

Photos by Alvin

You'll undoubtedly be seeing this outfit in and around NYFW if you're heading into the battlefield this year. A note about NYFW: make sure you don't stress out and just have fun. People-watch, enjoy the shows, take pictures - but there's no need to strut around in 7-inch heels to look cool. Because chances are, you already do.

Follow along at @kristengracelam during the week!

Here I am, learning French - one rad T shirt at a time.

And here's my promise to myself and to you guys - there'll be at least one video up by the end of September. Hold me to it.

sprung

Photos by Alvin

Spring has officially sprung - evident in the increasing amount of photos of flowers and green foliage on your Instagram feed (guilty as charged) - but I'm not mad at it. Because that means actually being able to wear this FCUK leather number with whatever mini dress I have on hand and beat up Converses. The perfect outfit for another rainy day at the Met.

genius is a matter of opinion

A mindless, almost desperate layering of clothes that resulted in a sort of genius outfit, genius being a matter of opinion. I've also noticed that all of my posts recently (and upcoming posts) have been revolved around the cold weather and layering. I promise I'll get more interesting when the weather gets warmer. Stick with me, guys!

the holidays : small gift ideas

Just in case you're feeling generous (but not too generous) during the holidays, here are a few gifts that say, "Hey, I care about you in a big way".

Well, I could never say no to a gorgeous Quiksilver oversized coat and Phillip Lim bag either - that's a huge hint right there to my parents, my sister and all you cool kids that just wanna make me smile this Christmas. Hello, random mustache photo.

3.1 phillip lim : spring 2013

There's none quite like Phillip Lim. I don't know how I could ever love a collection so much, I held my breath when going through the entire collection on Vogue, not only because the internet was moving at a glacially slow pace, but because of the distinguishing oversized coats, micro-floral prints, and plaid in chiffon and beads.

It'd be an understatement to say that I'd give up my entire current wardrobe for a few of these pieces, among some favorites are the floral oversized cargo vest (reminiscent of my only convertible vest) , the sheer plaid shirt, the floral baseball bomber and the embellished plaid dress.

I don't know how I feel about you as a backpack. You're still cute though, Phillip Lim, you're still cute.

The splurge of the century had to be something that I've been eyeing since I saw it on Leandra, the ManRepeller, who has the denim one. Since then, I've been tossing and turning over it, over its oversized awesomeness, over its obvious practicality, over its cleverness - and I finally caved.
